The problem with a plain black school bag is that thirty of them hang on the same row of pegs and none of them is distinguishable. The problem with a decorated one is that some schools will not have it.
This solves both. The bag is plain black nylon with a raised tonal logo panel, and the only colour on it is a neon yellow tag hanging off the front zip. Visible from across the corridor, and small enough that nobody has ever objected to it.
Water-resistant nylon, padded adjustable straps, a full width zipped front pocket and side compression straps for pulling the load in tight when the bag is half empty.

Which size to take
Small suits nursery and lower primary, where the bag carries a lunch box and a book or two. Medium is where most primary children end up. Large is for upper primary and secondary, once there is a file and a water bottle as well. Come in and hold them against her back, it takes two minutes and it settles the question.
Looking after it
Sponge it down with soapy water and dry it in the shade. Keep it out of the washing machine, it pulls the padding out of shape and it never recovers.
