This is the pair that does two jobs. Monday to Friday it is a school shoe, and on Sunday it goes to church without anyone buying a second pair. For most families that settles it.
The brogue punching runs along the toe cap and around the edge of the T-bar. It is what makes a plain black shoe look considered instead of cheap, and because it is punched into the material rather than printed on it, it still looks that way in August.

Getting the fit right
Measure at the end of the day rather than first thing, feet swell by the afternoon and a shoe fitted at seven in the morning can be tight by three. Leave about half a centimetre between the longest toe and the front of the shoe. Come to the shop and we will check it with him standing up, which is the only way that tells you anything.
Looking after them
Patent does not want polish. Wipe it with a damp cloth and buff it dry with a soft one. If it picks up a scuff, a little petroleum jelly on a cloth takes most marks straight out.
