The moc-toe seam across the front is not decoration. It is an extra line of stitching over the part of the shoe that fails first, which is the toe, because boys kick things.
This is the heaviest school shoe we carry. Thicker leather, a deeper sole unit and a wider fit than the standard lace-up. If you are buying school shoes twice a year, try this pair instead and see whether it changes the arithmetic.
Four eyelets, a padded collar around the ankle so the top edge does not rub on a long walk, and a tread deep enough to clear mud rather than pack it.

Sizing
These run true to European sizing. If he is between two sizes take the larger one, a school shoe with a little room lasts the year and a tight one is finished by half term. We will measure him properly in the shop, it takes two minutes and saves an exchange later.
Care
A damp cloth after school and a proper polish on Sunday evening will keep them looking right until the end of term. If they get soaked, stuff them with newspaper and leave them somewhere shaded to dry slowly.
