Patent is what parents buy in the second year, once they have seen what a term does to matte leather. A damp cloth takes the dust off and the shine comes straight back, and nobody spends Sunday evening with a tin of polish.
The T-bar crosses the instep and fastens with a silver buckle, so the shoe stays on the foot during games instead of slipping at the heel. There are two holes on the strap, which buys you a little room as the foot widens through the year.
Underneath is the same thick moulded sole we put on every school shoe here, with a pink stripe around the midsole that girls notice, and a tread deep enough to hold on a wet corridor.

Getting the size right
Bring him in and we will measure both feet, because one is almost always a little bigger than the other and it is the bigger one that decides the size. Ordering online? Stand him on a sheet of paper, mark the heel and the longest toe, measure between the marks in centimetres and add half a centimetre for growth. Looking after them
Patent does not want polish. Wipe it with a damp cloth and buff it dry with a soft one. If it picks up a scuff, a little petroleum jelly on a cloth takes most marks straight out.
