Every boy eventually refuses velcro, usually around P4, usually because of something somebody said at school. This is the shoe he moves to.
It is a plain lace-up in soft black leather with stitched panels across the vamp, cut on a wider last than an adult shoe so there is room for a foot that is still spreading. Four eyelets, enough to pull it properly tight without turning the morning into a project.
The sole is thick moulded rubber with a blue stripe around the midsole and a deep chevron tread underneath. It grips, and more to the point it has not worn smooth by half term.

Getting the size right
Bring him in and we will measure both feet, because one is almost always a little bigger than the other and it is the bigger one that decides the size. Ordering online? Stand him on a sheet of paper, mark the heel and the longest toe, measure between the marks in centimetres and add half a centimetre for growth. Send us that number on WhatsApp and we will tell you what to take.
Looking after them
Wipe the dust off with a damp cloth when he gets home and polish them properly once a week. Dry them in the shade, never in direct sun, it hardens the leather and then it cracks along the flex point.
