This is the least expensive shoe on our shelf that we are still willing to call a leather school shoe. Below this price you are buying synthetic, and synthetic does not last a term in this climate.
What you give up is detail, not construction. There is no punching, no panel stitching, no padded collar. What you keep is a leather upper, a tan leather lining and the same moulded sole unit that goes under shoes costing half as much again.
For a family buying three pairs in January, this is usually the honest answer.
Specifications
- Upper: black leather
- Lining: tan leather
- Fastening: single velcro strap
- Sole: moulded rubber, deep tread, orange heel tab
- Sizes: EU 25 to 42
Getting the fit right
Measure at the end of the day rather than first thing, feet swell by the afternoon and a shoe fitted at seven in the morning can be tight by three. Leave about half a centimetre between the longest toe and the front of the shoe. Come to the shop and we will check it with him standing up, which is the only way that tells you anything.
Care
A damp cloth after school and a proper polish on Sunday evening will keep them looking right until the end of term. If they get soaked, stuff them with newspaper and leave them somewhere shaded to dry slowly.
